As requested, below are examples of "Roach's" culturally insensitive behavior towards myself & countless other members of our shared work teams.
â ď¸ The items listed below were all said or done by "Roach" on-the-job and/or in mixed company â ď¸
During a team gathering, asked a former teammate to remove his shirt & show the team his full-body tribal tattoos.
Shortly before a team meeting, began graphically discussing her spinning class; specifically mentioned the effect the seat has on her private area, in front of the only male team member present.
Between meetings, G00g!e Earthed a female teammateâs hometown in India. Said it looked âdirtyâ & âpoor,â but also mentioned wanting an âauthenticâ cultural experience should she & her husband (đ) decide to travel there.
Told a woman at the company N@ts gameâthe only other Black woman there besides myself & the servers that nightâto "go sample the watermelon" at the buffet. Yes, there were indeed watermelon slices available; but out of that entire spread of food itâs *only* the watermelon that Roach recommendedâspecifically to the two of us. Later that evening, the womanâs young daughter turned around in her seat & stared at me wistfully. I wished I could have said something to them, but as a new employee & one of the few team members of color present for that nightâs festivities, I felt my hands were tied. The other Black woman present was also a new employee.
Roach & her husband's coupleâs trip to East Asia was cancelled due to Zika fears & the pair were hoping to reroute their trip to India instead. One day, Roach updated my female Indian teammate that her couple's trip to India was a "no-go" & that she & her husband were "probably going to visit London instead" & get their âfix for Indian cultureâ there. Ironically, this conversation took place around C0lĂźmbĂźs D@y.
Berated my female Indian teammateâs work loudly & within earshot of the entire hallway we sit in, including clients. Other contractors outside of [REDACTED] came by to support the teammate.
Treats certain team members markedly different than others. For example, thereâs only *some* team members she openly criticizes; certain team members received welcome lunches while others did not; Roach shares *way too much* information with some team members, but is overly reserved with others, etc.
Remarkably, around the holiday season this year, Roach went around to multiple teammates of ours loudly & repeatedly claiming to be "the Jew who loves Chr!$tm@s," which Iâas a Black Jewish personâfound deeply offensive & insulting.
â ď¸ In addition to the situations above, Roachâs behavior in a business capacity is *also* problematic â ď¸
She sets things up to look like Iâm passing off my workload to a teammate, even after the teammate in question acknowledges my contributions & the inherent challenges of managing our team's workload single-handedly.
She aggressively followed up on a work task Iâd completed the previous week. One of the people cc'd on my response regarding the issue mistakenly sent an email over the weekend about the same issue, not realizing it had already been resolved. Roach gave almost the exact same response *I* did in *her* response, making it look like I didnât follow-up on the task. The clientâs email also conveniently left out my response from the previous week:

She often goes through my shared folders in our team's email inboxes & follows up on tasks Iâm already working on or that have already been completed. Not only does this confuse the client & make the team look disorganized, but this behavior also makes me feel that I'm not trusted to deliver a quality work product.
Once enlisted a teammate of ours to assist in showing myself & another teammate how to pull certain metrics for a client report. Despite providing explicit, overly-detailed instructions on methodically completing the task at-hand, Roach aggressively followed up with the client in a way that made it look like having the teammate in question help us with said task was *my* idea, & not her own.
I often pull reports from a certain software system for client review. Despite repeatedly performing the steps to obtain the reports with no complaints from the client, Roach had me walk a completely unfamiliar teammate through said task to ensure I was "performing the steps correctly." Once the report results were generated, Roach proceeded to criticize the format of the report, saying it was "not intuitive enough" for the client. Again, the client for this task *never once* complained to me or suggested the report appear in any other non-system-generated way.
Roach sometimes organizes brief touchpoint meetings with our team specifically to criticize one of the teamâs new client-side Internet coordinators. The client in question has a rather aggressive speaking tone that Roach takes very personally, openly disparaging him to our teammates before our daily standup calls. Iâve talked to the client both directly (one-on-one) & on group calls, & his tone is noticeably different with me; so far, we work well together. Any calls or email threads including both Roach & this particular client are always incredibly tense.
Overall, I like my coworkers & enjoy the work Iâm doing, probably for the first time ever in my working life.Â
But Roach's bizarre & unprofessional behavior makes me feel like Iâm not trusted to do my job well, while simultaneously being set up to fail.Â
Additionally, Roach's increasingly aggressive, erratic, & counterproductive actions make me wonder where exactly the boundaries exist between *my* work product(s) & *hers.*
I plan to have a one-on-one meeting with Roach to address these issues & how they affect my management of our team's many & varied tasks.Â
Ideally, Iâd like us to work cohesivelyâas contractors from the same consulting group *and* as individual team members on the same contractâwith little to none of the micromanagement that currently prevails.
